It was an ok read, but couldn't fully convince me. There was just so much more potential in the background stories and the characters that wasn't used. And for a thriller I sadly didn't feel very thrilled by it. But I still had fun reading it.
Sometimes this is really violent. But other than his “Shepherd”-series I liked it anyway.
This has much to do with August Burke. And a bit with Krüger.
I liked the “quest” presented but the denouement wasn‘t as extraordinary as the arc of suspense indicated.
Anyway, there was something in the plot and writing style that definitely kept my interest. This is why I don‘t care that the end is a bit flat.
Note: There might one day be a sequel.
Throwing out a quick question to @RamsFan1963 before I finish the tagged book – not the pictured one – even if it really sounds interesting …
When did you change your profile picture❓ Pleeeaaase say: “Recently.”, then I don‘t feel so inattentive because I just noticed it now. 😉
Being ill ain‘t cool …
But I‘ve been diligent today and even did paperwork that came yesterday and of which I knew I had to do it soon but at the same time didn‘t want to because I knew it wouldn‘t be a sure-fire success.
Now that it‘s completed I take some rest with tea 🍵 and book 📖 on my sunny ☀️ balcony. I‘m both, a bit proud of having gotten it done already and a bit strung out. But hey, I‘m ill, so I shouldn‘t be too astonished.
Nearly halfway through.
I still like it. Interestingly told with changes of perspective in “the right places”.
But, uh-oh, brutal again on page 253 ✂️.
Might also be I turn more and more to jelly the older I get. 🤷🏽♀️
Concise illustration of some parts of my yesterday. *sigh*
I told the doctor: “I assume I have this and that.” She glanced at the laboratory findings 🔬 and was like: “Yeah, jackpot 🎰. Take this prescription and come back in a week.”
So, here I am – written off sick again. 🤷🏽♀️
Not nice – but thank you for your comfort @Amiable and @DaveGreen7777 ‼️
Burke hated looking directly in someone‘s eyes but this time he forced himself to. “I just want to be left alone”, he explained. “I don‘t want to think about if I insult someone when I open my mouth. I don‘t want to constantly analyse others or copy their behaviour to not stand out. My world is wonderful and fascinating. Yours is broken and terrifying. Which one would you choose?” (p. 162)
⬆️⬆️⬆️ I can feel him so well, I sometimes feel alike.
Burke rolled his eyes. “[I took the video] From YouTube. But that doesn‘t matter. Just watch it. I have already seen it and now I gotta go pee before I will cause a floatation here.” He turned round and left through the back door. Doing so, he prodded Loria and said: “Sorry, sometimes I‘m really clumsy.” (p. 154)
⬆️⬆️⬆️ Okay guys, already caught by the story and its and humour again. Which only took less than seven pages.
Coming back to this one.
I remember I was disappointed when I had to put it aside because it meanwhile definitely aroused my interest. But now I‘m just picking it up again because I want to finish it so that I can start one of the treasures I “hunted” Saturday and Monday … 😇
Would only be fair towards the book if I come to terms with its story again fast to be gripped again.
We. Did. It.‼️ Yesterday, we visited the exhibition „Der Traum der Bibliothek“ that @Sarah83 has started me off.
Oh, and I loved it. I am so enthusiastic over it. Not on everything. But I loved the documentaries about the lost libraries and about the library at Neumayer station in Antarktis.
And the film-books exhibition room.
The idea of the interactive exhibit was just brilliant‼️😂
Some of the pictures 🖼 I would have loved to take home.
Yesterday I was looking forward to come back to this today. I had to leave office on flexitime today because I had an appointment – and thought that I‘d have time to continue with my thriller.
Naive me.
My plan was taken_before_ my letter box tipped out bookwork that took more than 3 hours until being done.
That sucks‼️😟
Wonders never cease‼️
I am too tired to read “one more chapter”.
So it will be my audiobook until I fall asleep in maximum 20 minutes.
If I didn‘t already know I could tell from specific parts of the plot that this is a book by Ethan Cross.
It‘s fairly brutal.
And I am not touchy when it comes to violence in thrillers. But this villain‘s methods often make me think “Ouch‼️✂️🔪💥”

The only thing I could think of was “Linux”. 🤷🏽♀️
I mean, the programmers must have been really clever when it comes to giving their baby a name. Which until today I was unable to appreciate.
“Desmond Tutu once said that we are made of togetherness, family and friendship, and made to live in a fragile network of dependencies. If we all acted a little more towards this maxim, then the world would be a much better place.” (p. 77/78)
Status: page 56. 🥳
Many characters so far. Still in the stadium where I tend to confuse them.
Bought it as a remaindered book from the bargain table.
Apart from that I really think it‘s beautiful with its cover and its blue edge, can you imagine that the pages are still sticking quite firmly together at the outer long side❓
Shows quite well the faultiness 🤥 which brought it on the bargain table …
Ain‘t this sad❓ Someone really might have put heart‘s blood in the edition‘s composition and layout – and then it‘s quickly flogged. 😢
*sigh
Guess what – yeah. My audiobook has won last night over my physical book.
But: I survived my appointment at the dentist 🦷 this morning 😰 and may now in reward try to get into this book in my third attempt.
Don‘t ask me why I can‘t make progress in here. I can‘t come up with an answer. Not even with a bad one to say nothing of a good one.
Where I live, it‘s really late, well, really early, to be more exact and I should be sleeping for a long time. But I‘m not. So I might try to take this one to bed with me but it might also be that once I‘m lying 🛌 my new audio 🎧📖 „Der stete Lauf der Stunden“ wins. 🤷🏽♀️
“He knew what time it was and his body clock told him that he has been woken up ten minutes too early.” (p. 10)
⬆️⬆️⬆️ As you see, I still didn‘t get very far – bum fodder. 🙄 But this bother, I can relive this so well. I hate it if someone does this to me. Because if you really need to wake me up, this means I was fast asleep – and in this case I want every minute of sleep I can get‼️
Last weekend I did come veeeeeery far in this one‼️😉
I read the one and a half pages chapter one consists of.
Let‘s see how well I do at second attempt.
Balcony reading. ⛱🌤
Fun fact: I‘m looking forward to this.
The more because I had forgotten about it and just have rediscovered it by pure chance. 😇
We went to the electronic store – to spend money on electronics.
What we did.
And look what I got as an add-on. 😍
(And no, we haven‘t been to a book store.)
