Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again | Frank Cottrell Boyce
12 posts | 6 read
Buckle your seatbelt for the first-ever follow up to Ian Fleming's only children's story. When the Tooting family finds an old engine and fits it to their camper van, they have no idea what kind of adventure lies ahead. The engine used to belong to an extraordinary car . . . and it wants its bodywork back! But as the Tootings hurtle across the world rebuilding the original Chitty, a sinister baddie is on their trail - one who will stop at nothing to get the magnificent car for himself. Fueled by wry humor , this much-anticipated sequel to the children's classic by Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond - featuring a contemporary family and a camper van with a mind of its own - is driven by best-selling, award-winning author Frank Cottrell Boyce and revved up by Joe Berger's black-and-white illustrations.

The first pages works on introducing you to a sort of strange family of 5. They seem pretty normal at first but soon go through many wild adventures in their magical van. It seems to have a lot of imagination and creativity involved that could help spark kids‘ minds.

WRONG. Wrong, so very, very, very wrong. As wrong as a person could possibly be.“

I would use this book in my classroom because it sparks imagination and creativity in children's personal lives. The book is appropriate for children all ages and can be relatable for bigger families while traveling.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again written by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Chapter 1 p.1-23. This chapter introduced us to a unique family of five, who seem ordinary at first, but after the dad loses his job, they go underway on adventures in a magical van. I would classify this book as Eccentric Characters and Preposterous Situations because based on the front cover, the van can fly.

“The thing is, Dad,“ said Jem, “I don't think Chitty is a camper van. I think Chitty is... Chitty. All the time we thought we were driving her, she was really driving us...“

I loved how the author and illustrator include lists and drawings throughout the story. This breaks up the pages a little bit and gives the feel of the book some depth. I also loved the suspense throughout the part with Nanny. I believe this would give children a rush of energy to find out what happens next.

I decided to read this whole book because it brought be back memories from my childhood and reading the first one. I loved this book and I believe children will too. There is so much excitement, from them taking “Sneezy“ to Paris, Cairo, and so much more. The story really brings a sense of happiness at the end when the family is reunited. I also loved how the car took them to the places that it would find its pieces. This is a must read!
