A little late reporting back but this past weekend‘s #NetGalleyReadathon helped me organize my “to do” list for #NetGalley and focus on my next plan of attack.

I did not submit any reviews on NetGalley, but I identified 7 books I need to review and will hopefully trickle them into the system before our next readathon.

I have 17 in progress books! Yikes! But, now I have a list and can determine which to finish reading. Life always seems to ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ get in the way, and since I‘m not the biggest ebook fan, I tend to forget I started a book. But, the list will hopefully help me dwindle that down a bit without starting more. 😂 I identified one book that I had as book an audio and a print but read the audio, so I could submit the “will not review” for the print version. And, of course I requested more books, because why not?!? 18h
AllDebooks 😅 exactly, why not? 😅 17h
Soscha I had to give up my NetGalley. Too many requests, too stressful. This is why I only check out children‘s titles from the library. 16h

Librarybelle Good strategy, @Soscha ! 16h
LiteraryinPA I couldn‘t get traction on NetGalley because I wasn‘t reliably reading and reviewing. But it‘s such a cool program if it works for you! 8h
Librarybelle It helped that I used to have librarian status on it, so I still have so many auto approved books. That‘s wonderful, but also my need to read list just keeps growing! It‘s a bit addictive to request. 😂 @LiteraryinPA 6h

A history of some of the people who were sent to Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum (as it was then known) which opened in 1863. People who were tried for committing a crime but found unfit to plead or not responsible for their actions due to insanity under the Trial of Lunatics Act (1883), were sent to places such as Broadmoor - often for the rest of their natural life. Later residents included Peter Sutcliffe (the Yorkshire Ripper) & Ronnie Kray,

OutsmartYourShelf but this book concentrates on the early & less well-known cases.

Although the true crime stories were interesting, they did start to become a bit samey after a while. Many of the women incarcerated seemed to have been suffering some kind of postpartum issue, i.e. psychosis, & almost all of these men & women were incarcerated for many years. What really stood out was the absolute dearth of even rudimentary knowledge around mental health, even from

OutsmartYourShelf doctors who were often reluctant to send their patients to an asylum resulting in tragic loss of life. I think the book may have worked better if it had included a more thorough history of Broadmoor (now psychiatric hospital) including photos of the plan of the site as it changed over the years, & maybe some idea of daily life within the asylum walls. 3.25⭐

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Pen & Sword, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

This is the 4th book in the Frankie Elkin series, and I've really enjoyed every single one of them. I ended up giving this one 4 stars. Frankie Elkin is a little lost herself, but she spends her time finding missing people. This time she is looking for a missing Afghan refugee. Lisa Gardner clearly did a lot of research for this book. I love the humor and relationships built in this series. I was so happy to get an ARC of this through #Netgalley

This cozy mystery was an absolute delight, with just the right mix of murder, hijinks, and humor! Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-marigold-cottages-murder-collect...

At Chloe Harper‘s sweet 16 party, the birthday girl & classmate Mel end up in a car accident totalling Chloe's new car. The two girls have never been friends & afterwards they keep their distance - in public at least. You see the two girls not only had that accident but they killed Toby Dunne, the boy who had been terrorising Mel's brother amongst other things, & they buried him in the woods.

OutsmartYourShelf The two girls fall in love over time so when Chloe suddenly disappears without a word, Mel can't understand why. During the next 6 years, Mel becomes a private investigator, & when Chloe's family ask her to locate their missing daughter, Mel agrees little knowing what lies ahead.

This starts off with a tense situation aboard a private plane & I was really expecting a adrenaline rush of a story, but the tendency of the two MCs to interrupt a tense

OutsmartYourShelf scene with an extended heart-to-heart or screaming row became irritating as it slowed down the pace of the story too much.

The narrative is told from several points of view including both Mel & Chloe & one of the bad guys, & the timeline zips about all over the place. It was an enjoyable read but it could have been better. 3.25⭐

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Dead Ink Books, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Two more ARCs done and two in progress (I think I‘m starting a fun romance kick). If I didn‘t keep getting new books from NetGalley, I‘d be making progress on my ARC reading goals 😅 #netgalley #netgalleygroup

AllDebooks Lol, I know how that goes! 📚📚📚📚 Pleased to have you with us. I'll add you to the taglist. 😀 4d
janeycanuck I‘m glad I‘m not the only one nearing double digits with books in progress! 3d

So good. The plot is quite twisty and there's lots going on. Its told mostly by Vicki but we do hear from Scarlet throughout as well. The plot is clever as it slowly brings everyone together. Its a quick read and I found myself struggling to put it down. Vicki takes a while to warm up to and she has some issues but you find an understanding as the plot develops. The ending was so good and really brought it all together. #Netgalley 4*

I meant to only read the first few pages before crawling out of bed this morning. I failed in the best way.

I loved everything about this second (or maybe third) chance romance. Amid the first love bubbles, there's an intimacy from their long years of friendship. Bonus points for showing how hot consent is even when things are getting hot and heavy.

A big thank you to the author for showcasing a successful, tight-knit Black family.

Zuhkeeyah Thank you #NetGalley for the #arc! I managed to complete this weekend's book goal sooner than expected @AllDebooks (edited) 6d

Berkley, I want to cry. My request was put in MONTHS ago. Now do I just abandon everything I‘m reading for this? Decisions, decision. #arc #netgalley
