Deadly Eclair: A French Bistro Mystery
Deadly Eclair: A French Bistro Mystery | Daryl Wood Gerber
6 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
It's always been Mimi Rousseau's dream to open her own bistro, but it seems beyond her grasp since she's been chased back home to Nouvelle Vie in Napa Valley by her late husband's tremendous debt. Until her best friend Jorianne James introduces her to entrepreneur Bryan Baker who invests in promising prospects. Now, working the bistro and inn until she's able to pay it off and call it her own, Mimi is throwing the inn's first wedding ever. The wedding will be the talk of the town, as famous talk show host Angelica Edmonton, daughter of Bryan's half-brother, Edison, has chosen the inn as her perfect venue. Anxious, Mimi is sure things are going to turn south, especially when Edison gets drunk and rowdy at the out-of-towners' dinner, but by the evening, things begin to look up again. That is until six AM rolls around, and Bryan is found dead at the bistro with an eclair stuffed in his mouth. And the fingers point at Mimi, whose entire loan is forgiven in Bryan's will. Now it's up to Mimi to clear her name and get to the bottom of things before the killer turns up the heat again in A Deadly Eclair, the scrumptious series debut by Agatha Award-winning author Daryl Wood Gerber.

This was a fun mystery. The wine country setting, the lovely French food, it was idilic...except the murder. Lots of family drama. There‘s a cat. Sometimes the descriptions were long without adding to the story. Overall very enjoyable tho. #readwomen #cozymystery

This wasn‘t my favorite #cozymystery by this author. I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed her other series so in fairness it‘s a good story, just not as good as her others. It felt like there were too many characters thrown at us for a first bevel in the series so I had a harder time getting to know the main characters. I really like the secondary character, Heather, as she‘s a hoot!

A fun atmosphere and delicious sounding food and wine, but ultimately forgettable. Too many characters, but the setting is great! I‘m not sure I‘ll continue with this series, but I do enjoy the authors other books. I voluntarily reviewed an eARC provided by the publisher.

I really enjoyed this book! It was fun to read and kept me guessing throughout the whole novel. I will definitely be reading more by this author!

I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The first book in a new cozy mystery series, this is well written and entertaining. The main characters are likable and interesting. I was surprised by how aggressive the mc was at investigating the murder. And she never seemed to be in any real trouble. I look forward to seeing where the series goes from here.
