To Catch A King
To Catch A King | Charles Spencer
4 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 5 to read
Guided by its various twists and turns, To Catch a King tells the story the manhunt for Charles II, following the rebellion that spurred his fathers beheading in 1649. This unputdownable sequel to Killers of the King tells an old story with new eyes, challenging our polarised notions of royalism, nationalism and loyalty.

His fate, if captured would certainly be similar to his fathers. I am surprised this hasn‘t been made into a movie. 5/5 Stars (part 3). Signed by Charles Spencer

I wanted to read it and reacquaint myself with a part of the subject matter I studied in the 90‘s. This is Book reads like the great adventure that it was. Charles II, whose father, Charles I, was beheaded by the Parliamentarian Government, leads a Royalist Army which is defeated at the Battle of Worcester, flees for his life from Parliamentary forces under Oliver Cromwell. He is assisted in hiding from various people loyal to the crown. (Part 2)

I took a class in college in the early 90‘s about Britain under the Stuart‘s. A time period lasting from 1603 to 1714, interrupted by the English Civil War and Commonwealth from 1649 to 1660. British history was not my concentration of study which was why I found this period so interesting. When I saw this book on Charles ll, written by Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl of Spencer and the younger brother of Princess Diana, (part 1 of 2

Charles Spencer... yep, actually Earl Spencer, that Charles Spencer, is a fabulous presenter. Hopefully the book is as good but the wildlife was *not* cooperating with the gravity of Charles II‘s daring escape across England: the squirrels got inside those lovely green fabric clad uprights then had a ball scrambling around. They also got onto the white roof and cast hysterical shadows!! 😂😂😂😂
