A woman trying to make enough money to move to Mars by working as a rent-a-friend longs for more in this novella. . I really appreciated that this was all about the journey, not the destination. We never see Amelia reach Mars. We never even see her on a spaceship.This story is all about longing and striving rather than some grand adventure. Maybe less exciting than a lot of the SF we see today, but that's actually what I loved about it.

Nice quick, entertaining read.

Lovely novella about a young woman who dreams of leaving her life in Mexico City to live on Mars. The feeling that Morena-Garcia conjures in this story is familiar to many of us, namely the sense of being held back from achieving dreams. Sometimes these limits are self-imposed, other times they‘re the result of things beyond our control. This is a beautiful, wistful tale in which the main character attempts to navigate this confusion. Recommended!
