All There Is: Love Stories from StoryCorps | Dave Isay
5 posts | 10 read | 3 to read
A celebration of love from StoryCorps In All There Is, StoryCorps founder David Isay shares stories from the revolutionary oral history project, revealing the many remarkable journeys that relationships can take. In these pages we discover that love is found in unexpected places: a New York tollbooth, a military base in Iraq, an airport lounge. We encounter love that survives discrimination, illness, poverty, distanceeven death. Carrying us from the excitement and anticipation of courtship to the deep connection of lifelong commitment, All There Is enriches our understanding of love and of the resilience of the human spirit. Dave Isay's newest book, Callings, will be published by Penguin Press on April 19, 2016. From the Trade Paperback edition.

"...we saw a sign that said SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE. i will never forget it: it had six points to always say to your wife or husband, and the first one was YOU LOOK GREAT. the second one was CAN I HELP? the third one, LET'S EAT OUT. the fourth one was I WAS WRONG. and the fifth one was I AM SORRY. but the last and most important one was I LOVE YOU... so we followed it, and we did have a successful marriage."
~ Leroy, 85, remembers his late wife

Pure perfection. Humans are capable of such love and pathos. Reading these stories renews my faith in humanity.

Download this audio (I was able to get it through my library's Overdrive app) and feel your heart swell. Have a hankie with you. Stop being mad that he puts the Tupperware in the cupboard with the same organizational skills that a monkey would use. Forgive her for forgetting to replace the toilet paper. Give more hugs. Laugh. Celebrate love.
