The Bloody Hand (titre original La Main coupée) est un récit autobiographique écrit pendant et après la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, entre 1944 et 1946, et constitue un vivant témoignage de Cendrars sur son expérience de soldat engagé volontaire dans la Grande Guerre. La couverture du livre (rigide) est percée de trous. Ces trous, qui dessinent la constellation d'Orion, laissent apparaître un fond argenté. Orion/C'est mon étoile/Elle a la forme d'une main/C'est ma main montée au ciel, écrit Cendrars dans son poème éponyme. En fin de volume, une cinquantaine de dessins de poilus, conservés à l'Historial de la Grande Guerre de Péronne, illustrent la vie dans les tranchées.

A book written by Blaise Cendrars, native of Switzerland. It's an autobiography of his years in the french army during the WWI. It was quite interesting but I didn't like the writing that much.
The author tells the story of the soldiers of his company, what happened to them during and after the war. It gives a good look of the everyday life during the conflict.
