Pickpick

Grischa, a WWI Russian soldier, escapes a prisoner camp and is discoveredhiding in the forest by outlaws. He tarries with the captivating Babka before the driving desire to return to his family in Russia overcomes him. Babka clothes him in the uniform of a deserter, but he is captured again and this time his false identity cannot help him...

I loved the first section, but found the machinations of German forces tedious. The end was compelling.

Liz_M If only it would stop raining in Brooklyn I could take my thick pb edition of this novel and do the same. 6y
Henrik_Madsen @Liz_M I hope weather gets better soon. We have had great weather for a month after approximately 15 months of crappy weather in a row! 6y
