Sonya Sones writes this powerful story using verse, and it's a successful literary tool for expressing Lily's convoluted emotions. This is purely a teen book and it shows Lily's naivete when it comes to love and sex. It's a heartbreaking story as you watch Lily get manipulated by her dad's best friend, Luke, on whom she harbors a crush. He coerces her into sex and rapes her many times while she blames herself. 👇🏼👇🏼
This was between a ‘so-so‘ and a ‘pick‘ for me. I went with a pick only because it touches on really important topics and it‘s written in a way that makes for a quick read that‘s perfect for teen readers struggling with the stamina it takes to get through full pages. I would absolutely recommend this to some of my high schoolers, but I‘m not the perfect reader for this book. Still, super important conversations can be had after reading this book.
Well, would you look at that?! So what I thought was a typo happened again, and inquiring minds had to know🕵🏼♀️ if this was some weird word never used in modern English. Alas, friends, Dr. Google tells me that this word that I thought was a misspelling of ‘favorite‘ is a Flippin‘ Green Gem. Whaaaa?? And how does one pronounce that? I‘m only going from the dip that kinda starts the same, so is this “savor it” “savor rite” Headed back to Google.
What has happened here?! 😂😂😆 I‘m cruising along and all the sudden I stumble over this editing mishap. It‘s the equivalent of the tv glitching.
