Rock Redemption | Nalini Singh
5 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
From New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh comes the next contemporary romance in the Rock Kiss series... Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness...until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart. Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he'd rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It's his saving grace, but it doesn't silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours' sleep and his bad boy reputation. When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new "it" couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting-needing-to give Kit this, even if he can't give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful...and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.

So first off: #triggerwarning for sexual abuse - not explicitly depicted, but it's tackled here; stalking's a prominent trope in this one too. I thought they were handled quite well though. I know romance is usually escapist by nature, but I absolutely love it when a romance novel author tackles tough themes and tropes like that, and does it well - all while giving us that uplifting note of hope in the HEA.

Even as that reminder sliced pitilessly through the hope, Kit accepted the bleak truth that Noah would always be the one. She might one day love another man, but it would never be like what she and Noah could‘ve had together. The promise between them, it had been something most people never experienced. It was broken now, shattered so badly nothing could put it back together, but when it had been whole, it had been beyond beautiful, a priceless gift

I guessed every plot point herein, but I still had a great time with my second Nalini Singh. It's packed with actors, rock stars, found families, characters who fear they can never be good, and people who always strive to do better. I approve.

And I can't wait to get to know the secondary characters better through the rest of the series (which I'm apparently reading out of order due to misleading labels on Hoopla. Oops). #romantsy

This was supposed to be the last decent day, weather-wise, so I juggled some stuff around and went for an 8.6-mile walk.

In actual fact, it stayed so chilly I had to go into Goodwill and buy a sweater. Blah. Still, I got to see my favourite dead tree and listen to this most excellent audiobook. I hope the book stays good; my first Nalini Singh was WONDERFUL at first, but bored me silly by the time it finally ended.

I think this is my favorite from this series so far. I hurt for Noah and Kit. They had so much to overcome and seeing their ups and downs was great. Good action and great romance. #romantsy #romance
