Running For My Life
Running For My Life: How I Built a Better Me, One Step at a Time | Rachel Cullen
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
For readers who enjoyed Alexandra Heminsley's Running like a Girl and Bryony Gordon's Mad Girl, Running For My Life is a funny, heartfelt and inspirational story of one woman's marathon journey through mental illness. Suffering from depression but desperate for 'normality', Rachel Cullen found herself in failing relationships, the wrong career and a reliance on alcohol and chocolate to get her through each day. Stuck in an endless cycle of mental misery, she put on a pair of old trainers. She'd never been able to think of herself as a 'runner' before, and the first time she forced herself out the door, she knew it would hurt. Everywhere. She just didn't realise how much it would heal her, too.

A running book which is about more than just running. I found Rachel‘s ongoing learning about herself and the importance running has within her life and n her mental health both powerful and interesting. Pretty poor picture but this was another event at my city‘s book festival. The author of the tagged book, along with Louise Minchin from BBC Breakfast talking about their relationships with running & triathlons.
The tagged author was especially interesting talking about how running really helped her overcome mental health issues. I haven‘t actually read her book yet but attended as a runner and book lover and really want to pick it up now.
