pickI loved this book. The book was about a young woman, Adah, during the Great Depression who marries a man named Lester Branch only to find out that he is a very abusive man. In an attempt to protect herself one night, she ends up killing him during a terrible rainstorm. She dumps him in the river and tells her in-laws that he was washed away by the river. She realizes with her in-laws that her horrors are only just beginning. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Her hands were lined and scarred and looked older than her thirty-one years.
pickIt was another fabulous read by Ann Howard Creel. One of those stories where family isn‘t about blood but more about love and sacrifices. Powerful and full of suspense! The book is set during and after the Ohio River Flood Of 1937 super interesting time period and event!
It‘s my second book by Ann Howard Creel. I adore her writing style. Her character development is always so strong! I think it‘s her forte!
Intriguing plot was wasted on a long, slow, repetitive whine from the main character who lacked imagination to get herself out of a bad situation. What felt like it could have been resolved in less than a month took more than a year as seasons passed and the main character whiled away her time bemoaning the situation. And did the stepdaughter ever age? I stayed for the plot but worn down by its telling.
