“Three Green Beans and a Black-Eyed Pea“
Students might like this book because it is more of a song than a book.

This is a very cute book with really cool illustrations! It even had the song at the end of the book. This is a rhyming book which could be fun with younger kids.
This book is a Caldecott Winner(pub.1955). The illustrations were colorful at points, but would then go into a black and white type of view. It also had a constant rhythm to it, even so that there is a little song at the end of the book. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the illustrations of the scene and setting, but also the individual animals and what they brought to the wedding.
“Next to come was a bumblebee, A banjo buckled to his knee.“
I loved trying to guess what the next rhyming line was going to be based off of the first rhyming line.
“The last one to come in was the old Tom car. He says: ‘I‘ll put a stop to that!‘”
Genre: Caldecott
This story is told with a poem, which makes it catchy and fun to read. All kinds of insects pitch in with the wedding, bringing all sorts of food and other items. Soon enough, a tom cat comes along and tries to eat them all.
“Frog‘s Bridle and saddle are laid on the shelf. If you want anymore, you must sing it yourself!”
I think it‘s very sweet to read about different animals helping provide for the wedding of the mouse and the frog. It‘s a very heartfelt book, that I can see other kids loving as well.
I love the character development in this book. This book gives personality and character to outdoor animals. It would be a great book to read with kids since it can be sung as well as read.
He took Miss Mouse on his knee,
“Pray, Miss Mouse, will you marry me?
When Mouse told frog she would only marry him with her uncles permission.
This book has great illustrations! It‘s about a song that‘s told over and over and passed around America. Every time it‘s told something is added. It‘s about a frog and a mouse and their little friends. The frog and mouse get married and have their wedding. This makes the book interesting because it‘s cute and funny. It would appeal to children because they think love is funny and cute as well. I loved this book!!!
