3 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
A Labyrinth of Scions and Sorcery is the masterful second novel in Curtis Craddock's critically-acclaimed high fantasy Risen Kingdoms series, continuing the engrossing tale of courtly intrigue and breathtaking magic, and starring our fiercely intelligent heroine Isabelle des Zephyrs with her loyal musketeer Jean-Claude. Isabelle des Zephyrs has always been underestimated throughout her life, but after discovering the well of hidden magic within her, unveiling a centuries-long conspiracy, and stopping a war between rival nations, she has gained a newfound respect amongst the cutthroat court. All that is quickly taken away when Isabelle is unfairly convicted of breaking the treaty she helped write and has her political rank and status taken away. Now bereft, she nevertheless finds herself drawn into mystery when her faithful musketeer Jean-Claude uncovers a series of gruesome murders by someone calling themselves the Harvest King. As panic swells, the capital descends into chaos, when the emperor is usurped from the throne by a rival noble. Betrayed by their allies and hunted by assassins, Isabelle and Jean-Claude alone must thwart the coup, but not before it changes lEmpire forever. A gripping tale of a woman who refuses to be defined by her physical and magical limitations, thwarting both assassins and all who see her as a pawn. 🎧 This is the 2nd book in the high fantasy Risen Kingdom trilogy. It continues the story of Isabelle & her musketeer Jean Claude & thankfully it‘s all story? No fluff fantasy! 🙄

Isabelle has fallen from Grace when she‘s unfairly accused of breaking the treaty she helped write. Everything‘s fought to attain is taken away from her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻

Twainy Before you know it the game‘s afoot! Jean Claude has come across horrific murders committed by someone calling himself the Harvest King, a mystery to solve, a killer to stop. The capitol is in chaos.

Isabelle & Jean-Claude must stop a coup, save the emperor & catch a killer.

There is SO MUCH political and social maneuvering going on for this whole book which leads up to the pure chaos of the end. Maybe that's how to explain this book: pure organized but frantic political chaos. I loved that Jean Claude got more developed outside of being the father figure. Isabelle is kind of a bad ass in this book and OH! MY! GOD! HALLELUJAH! THERE IS STILL NO POWERFUL ROMANCE OVERSHADOWING HER PLOT! HELL YES! THANK YOU SIR!

Oldschool_millenial "There's no powerful romance over shadowing her plot" *ADD* 5y
