I didn‘t want to like this. It‘s a #BOTM book & I like to pass them …. It took me like 20% and then I was hooked. Funny. Realistic. Quirky. Weird. Almost a bit frustrating at a couple points but ok. I thought it was going to be sci-fi! I loved some of the phrases she uses. It was a character study of a half deaf podcaster who grew up with a clinically depressed mom. The end brings a revelation. It took me a while to get into the MTG card thing.

Very like a fairytale. There‘s a sex scene.

I liked the premise. A girl who has magic which is considered an illegal infection/illness & should not be allowed to live. On top of this she has a monster in her head. She is taken in by rebels looking for a cure. Plan is to pretend engagement. Fake fiancé can enter her mind but promises not to until an emergency. Stay tuned for book 2.

This wasn‘t what I was looking for so the rating is how I feel not necessarily how you will feel.

Personal stories about the author‘s life & people he has come across in life. His 6 choices are interesting but really don‘t solve anxiety.

1 sentence made sense to me. The root of anxiety can be due to a number of things … you should see your MD & look for chemical imbalances in your brain, heart irregularities & hormone levels.

I loved this. A super short story, the basis of John Carpenter‘s The Thing! A movie that still haunts me. It‘s nice to see a movie‘s origin story 😉

Twainy @Pageturner1 @BookmarkTavern thank you. It‘s funny because I guiltily use the GR challenge to track the books I read … I think a challenge would stress me out & I‘d read less. 🤷🏼‍♀️ This year my challenge is to DNF a book or two 😁 & catch up on some of my reviews. Enjoy reading 🎉 3d

Yesss! Great space opera!! At the end of the war super soldiers are put into an endless sleep hopefully never to be needed again as peace is inevitable and promised. But is it. And will these soldiers be happy to be woken up so many years later to fight a war for a humanity that betrayed them?

I enjoyed the story but it jumped around in a mixed up timeline. I didn‘t see the killer until the twist. It made sense in hind sight. I think the horror comes from Amy‘s fear of her own shadow. There were some good believable characters. The dialog wasn‘t bad. I‘d listen to another book by this author.

I really enjoyed this book!!!

I believe my experience was elevated by watching Alexander on Netflix. I wish I‘d also watched one on Genghis Kahn.

Extra rating for that cover!!

This story is everything the publishers summary says it is and more!!

Such a rushed lame review. Just read & enjoy it! Now I need that pretty hard cover on my shelf …. Amazon Book Wishlist!!

Read Veronica Ruiz Breaks the Bank 1st! It‘s Vero‘s origin story & SHORT. Finlay‘s book 3 ends on a cliff hanger & this story fills holes. Vero‘s brother, her love interest & why she‘s not in college.

This is a whirl wind trip to Atlantic City with Steven, Finlay‘s mom, her kids, her new boyfriend, her sister, her sister‘s GF, the FBI … this story made me LAUGH! You know everything will turn out but getting there is all the fun!

Audiobook‘s really engaging & includes background noise.

Cady runs a river taxi. She ferries passengers through a 60 mile ghost dragon on the Nysis. She starts her day today by picking up a very sick young girl who‘s in danger & an AI. Right up my alley.

The Nysis is treacherous, there‘s challenging ports & horrors that lurk beneath the surface.

Cady lost her ability not to age so this could be her last journey.

My favorite Orphan X yet! Number 9! This has high octane action! Humor! Mystery! It‘s everything you could want in a story! Audio is impeccable!

You don‘t need to read the prior 8 stories but you will want to when you‘re done if you haven‘t!

She leaves her estate to her adopted son Cam. You want to know why he leaves his 9 figure inheritance to his relatives and moves across the country to be a teacher & marry Jules.

Made me think of John Dies at the End. Absurdity abounds. It‘s great fun! I liked the writing style.

Ben can recite the oddest facts & has no idea why. He‘s looked for a reason his entire life. He harbors a secret that he‘s only shared with his BFF Patton. The chimes.

BFFs on a mission to save earth after being kidnapped. Patton‘s a good guy. Ben not so much due to an addictive food source given to him to help him find the chime.

The story of 3 couples. Three lighthouse keepers and their wives. The lighthouse keepers disappear mysteriously from a locked-from-the-inside lighthouse. The study is told from the lighthouse keepers from the time they disappeared and 20 years later it tells the story of the wives and how the loss has impacted them. Atmospheric and lonely.

January 2024 went by SO SO FAST!! I don‘t think I wrote many reviews. I feel like I was a reading slacker! I read 31 books and here are 16 of my favorites, all worth reading or recommending. I hope February slows down. I read 2 excellent non-fiction books and many 5 star stories. I‘ll choose The Dollmaker as my BOTM because I like the era, serial killers, strong female protagonists & it‘s a fun fast-paced thriller/mystery.

I didn‘t know. Now I do. A part of me wishes I didn‘t.

American Airmen were shot down over Chichi Jima, 8 were captured & taken prisoner by Japanese soldiers (what they went thru) & one was rescued by a passing sub. Their truth has been covered up for 60 years by the American & Japanese governments.

Graphic non-fiction horror. Not for the squeamish. A quick read. President Bush makes an appearance as the rescued 9th man.

DISAPPOINTING GSFF AUG 23 book. Since when is GSFF teen romantasy?

Personal rating - you cheated me out of $50 - 1 ⭐️

Everything about this book felt YA, in that sense I feel it did a good job. Young girl on the run with secret dark magic … enemies to lovers kind of … teen dialog … Emily Post-like dark boarding school … nothing is fully explained (guess you need to buy book 2).

CONFLICTED

If it had been sold as YA Romantasy maybe - ⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

I love a good short book that surprises me. Here‘s this week‘s surprise! There‘s plenty of creepy body horror. There are points when you wonder ok why are you so INSANE?! Are you kidding me! It was a great palate cleanser between books, I can see myself listening to this again. Read by the author. Cover buy!

12 Days: A Tale of Christmas

This is the 1st of 5 books I listened to pre-Christmas. Every year I listen to at least 1 Christmas story. These 5 books were solid & seemed to be based on stories you may be familiar with.

Barbara is not a nice person. She‘s a high powered jerk of a business woman who is about to live through 12 Scrooge-like lessons. Stick with it. There‘s a bit of a religious tone but it‘s not preachy.
