La primera noche
La primera noche | Marc Levy
2 posts | 5 read

I read this duology for a French book club. It was my first time reading Marc Levy, and probably my last.

The romance part is very cheesy... Then the "adventure" part is okay for entertainment, but far from being realistic. And comes the "philosophical" part: a mix of recycled ideas that don't hold much water. It's closer to "bar philosophy".

I would recommend Bernard Werber instead! Such a shame most of his books aren't available in English...

IuliaC There's one I enjoyed by Marc Levy, "Sept jours pour une étenité", the love story between an angel and a demon in present day San Francisco :) 2y
vlwelser His books are a bit weird. The magical realism with the US setting didn't really work for me. Though I love that Reese Witherspoon movie where she's in a coma. Can't remember the French title. 2y
Susanita I loved that movie! According to IMDb the French title is
Et si c'était vrai...

catsuit_mango @Adventures-of-a-French-Reader i know that Bernard werber is very famous in Korea, and I am pretty sure at least the Ants serie and the Thanatonauts Serie have been translated. I agree that Werber is way better than Levy ;) 2y
Adventures_of_a_French_Reader @IuliaC @vlwelser @Susanita I've heard of Si c'était vrai, but didn't read or watch it. Didn't hear about Sept jours pour une éternité... I will see if my reading journey brings me back to this author, I'll try to keep an open mind, haha. 2y
Adventures_of_a_French_Reader @catsuit_mango I knew about the Ants, but are you sure about the Thanatonauts? Because I might be interested for one of my book club... Of course, I can read them in French, but sometimes people ask me for recommandations, and I realize so much great French authors are not translated into English. 2y
catsuit_mango @Adventures-of-a-French-Reader i looked better and only the Ants are translated in English but other books are translated in German, Korean, Russian... Sorry about that :( 2y
