I love this author. She loves science and the environment and I love how funny and snarky she is. I started this in January. And it ended up as my September #DoubleSpin. It's going into my recipe book shelf. Because food. And recipes. ❤

@TheAromaofBooks

And thank you to @Soubhiville for sending this to me.

This is really good. It's about a mixed race girl and her mom in 1940s Berlin. And how to make sure the daughter survives being labeled a mischling. But that's the beginning. It's multigenerational and it sort of loops back on itself. Looking at who the monsters are actually and under what circumstances.

I have a terrible habit of not reading book descriptions. So this is not a fun romantic contemporary novel. It is Instagram jokes by one of my fav authors pretending to write to her grandma. But the proceeds go to a charity so whatev. It's very funny.

This is a quick read. It's labelled as horror. But I'd equate it to creepy Roald Dahl stories. You know, the one where the housewife murders the husband with a ham hock and then serves it to the officers. If that's your jam, definitely try this.

I don't know how to explain this. It's almost like the most gruesome fairy tale ever. But without the fairies. Or magic. And it's kind of a commentary on religion. And there's rape and incest and cannibalism and murder and other things you probably shouldn't do IRL. So you've been warned. It's really well written and I like the author. But it's mega dark. The um dead lamb on the cover might be a sign.

I haven't read enough Jane Austen to truly appreciate this one. The author takes your fav Austen characters (and one we all hate) and puts them together at a house party. She takes the time they were published (or written) and ages them all appropriately. It's clever. Then she kills off the one she hates and turns it into an Agatha Christie style mystery.

This author is an amazing writer. This is one of those books that's beautiful despite having little to no plot. It's about an Alsatian young woman who marries a Moroccan soldier and moves to that country and starts a family. It's about culture and religion and living in a colony right before it isn't a colony any longer. Setting is 1950s Morocco.
