This is an important and interesting group of essays. They're by famous authors and other famous figures. The essays are mostly about dealing with shame. I highly recommend it.

My book club picked this as our May book 2#. Not that it's less important but 1# is for fun and 2# is to educate ourselves. This month we read The Sentence and this one. I love my local book club.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! And I love the idea of picking two books for club that accomplish two different reading goals - a fun balance!! 12h

The Woman in the Library | Sulari Gentill

This is interesting and I like the premise, but ultimately this was a little too unfocused for me. A woman is writing a novel that she sends to a friend and he sends her feedback. But there's another set of correspondence that I won't get into. The setting is the Back Bay where I work so that didn't really help. It just sort of doesn't work if you look too closely.

This is a fun YA fantasy/historical fiction. It is nothing like Frankenstein IMO. Just throwing that out there. And the cover is gorgeous. This was a runner up pick for book club. So I read it on my own. TBH I'm a little glad they didn't pick this. Not sure this goes with the group vibe.

I loved this SO much. I want more of them. I get that's an unrealistic desire. But I do plan to read more of her books. I acquired this, I believe, initially because I have a thing for Bluebeard retellings. But all of these stories are fantastic. My favorite might be Puss in Boots.

I love this author. I found one of her books in the airport in Iceland and so glad I did. This one is about a man whose life is falling apart. He's depressed. So he picks a place to go kill himself. It's a hotel in an unnamed country that experienced a war and is just starting to recover. It may be a little dark but also funny and joyful. I definitely recommend it.

This author is quirky AF and I think I love her. Called Fear and Trembling in English, this tells the story of a Belgian young woman working for a year in Japan. It's funny and brutal and very short. There's No Such Thing as an Easy Job might be the only thing I could compare it to.

I bought this because of the cover. Because I love this Max Mara coat she is wearing. It cannot be the stupidest reason I ever bought a book, but it's up there. This would still be lingering on my TBR shelf if it weren't for #BookSpin.

But the book itself is SO interesting. It's well written and flows well. I'm pretty impressed with it. The book ends with her announcing a certain planned impeachment in 2019.

I have some questions about this. For the author. Couldn't the narcissist be a total psycho without being on the LGBTQ+ spectrum or making such a big deal about it? What is the real Gore Vidal even doing in this book? I think that's it.
