I picked this one up at the library from books they were culling from the shelves. Written in 1980 by Margaret Truman, President Truman‘s daughter, it was a bit dated but that didn‘t detract from my enjoyment. The Secretary of State has been murdered in the White House which limits the suspects to those who have the security clearance and access to the scene of the crime. There are about 30 books in the series and I may pick up a few more.
If I'd really thought through what a murder mystery written by a former President's daughter would look like, I'd probably have predicted this book more accurately. I didn't love it. It spent a little too much time describing political background rather than trying to engage the reader in the current situation. The dark reveal and the ending also were uncomfortable to me. I'm probably not going to seek out the next, at least not anytime soon.
...as I read this at 33 years old with my reading glasses on... 😶😂
