After promising on her father's deathbed to protect her sister, Troo, young Sally O'Malley finds she and her sister are on their own--with their mother hospitalized, their stepfather descending into alcoholism, and their big sister preoccupied with her boyfriend--at the same time that a child molester and murderer is on the loose. Pickpick

Loved this little gem of a book. Set in 1959, 10-year-old Sally recaps the events of that summer with her younger sister Troo, including the very real fear of a murderer/molester at large. The author's ability to really capture the atmosphere of the Midwest in 1959 was really what pulled me in.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I still think about this book years after I read it. A captivating story! 8y
