Introverts in the Church
Introverts in the Church: Finding Our Place in an Extroverted Culture | Adam S. McHugh
5 posts | 6 read | 7 to read
Introverts are called and gifted by God. But many churches tend to be extroverted places where introverts are marginalized. Some Christians end up feeling like it's not as faithful to be an introvert. Adam McHugh shows how introverts can live and minister in ways consistent with their personalities. He explains how introverts and extroverts process information and approach relationships differently and how introverts can practice Christian spirituality in ways that fit who they are. With practical illustrations from church and parachurch contexts, McHugh offers ways for introverts to serve, lead, worship and even evangelize effectively. Introverts in the Church is essential reading for any introvert who has ever felt out of place, as well as for church leaders who want to make their churches more welcoming to introverts. Discover God's call and empowering to thrive as an introvert, for the sake of the church and kingdom.

This has been a slow read for me—it‘s predominantly concerned with evangelical churches rather than a general picture of the introverted experience in Western Christianity. I had hoped to finish this in August, but it was not to be. I still intend to finish because it does has some good insights and I‘ve had it on my shelf since 2014 to read. Milo just happened to sit on the book so I figured I better get a picture of the cuteness!

This picture is from last summer. One of my reads was Introverts in the #Church. It didn‘t make me feel like I could be more at home in a church setting but it did validate a lot of the feelings I had based on previous church experience. #springintoreading @vkois88 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

wordslinger42 I've never heard of that book, but it sounds interesting! I've always been thankful that my church feels comfortable, like I'm in my living room with family. I'm sorry you had a poor experience 💙 5y

MatchlessMarie @IamIamIam Thanks! 🤗 This is his first time getting anesthesia so I'm a little nervous. I'm sure he will be fine, though. 7y

When the church is led by introverts and extroverts who partner together, each contributing their strengths and offsetting the others' weaknesses, it is a testimony that the Holy Spirit is orchestrating the community, that is not being run by the cult of personality.
