From the fall of the Roman Empire to the last days of Nazi power, marine archaeologist Jack Howard and his team of adventurers are hot on the trail of history’s most elusive and desired treasure: the lost golden menorah of Jerusalem. And what they discover could change the world forever…. Deep beneath the windswept waters near Istanbul, Jack and his crack team of experts have uncovered a surprising clue to the location of the fabled treasure plundered during the Crusades. Meanwhile, in a dusty cathedral library, someone unearths a long-forgotten medieval map. Together the two discoveries will solve an ancient mystery—and spark a race to stop a present-day conspiracy of staggering proportions. From diving into the core of an arctic iceberg to the last stand of a Viking warship to an extraordinary revelation deep in the jungles of Central America, Jack is headed straight into a globe-spanning clash of civilizations, into an astounding underground labyrinth steeped in blood and horrors—and to a confrontation with a killer on a shattering crusade of his own. You know that Fast Show sketch when the posh guy finds a book in his attic & "...it turned out to be the original copy of the Bible!" Well, that's what this book reminds me of. I'd file it under 'Daft but fun'. It's well researched & I enjoyed the real Viking history it uses but it's very Hollywood. Incident whilst diving inside an iceberg I'm looking at you! MC is a Marty Stu & it's ridiculously far-fetched. Pure hokum but very entertaining.

Starting this one tonight. Think this was passed on to me by my late father - it's the sort of thing he loved. When I opened it it had a ten year old lottery ticket inside it & it will be 10 years next year that he's been gone 😥

The blurb says something to the effect of it being Indiana Jones crossed with Dan Brown. Though that quote was from the Mirror - not exactly known as being an arbiter of quality literature 🤣

Elizabeth2 So sorry for your loss. I lost my dad a little over a year ago and felt like I wore a wet blanket dipped in concrete for over six months after he passed. Finding something like that in a book would be so bittersweet. I hope you enjoy the book with good memories of your dad. 3y
