Sly and the Family Stone's There's a Riot Goin' On
Sly and the Family Stone's There's a Riot Goin' On | Miles Marshall Lewis

The story behind the making of the album that signaled the descent of Sylvester Sly Stone Stewart into a haze of drug addiction and delirium is captivating enough for the cinema. In the spacious attic of a Beverly Hills mansion belonging to John and Michelle Phillips (of the Mamas and the Papas) during the fall of 1970, Sly Stone began recording his follow-up to 1969's "Stand!" the most popular album of his band's career.

Who would have thought Sly‘s book would be sitting on the backside of the new books shelf just winking at me? My little library in my little village? How random. A great haul today.

Ruthiella Love library surprises like that! 6mo

Stop the presses! Sly has written an autobiography! Not yet listed on Litsy but I just saw a review in The NY Times and I‘m ecstatic. His music still powers parts of my week. It‘s also the first title from Questlove‘s new publishing imprint.
