The Bone Knife: A Short Story | Intisar Khanani
2 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
Rae knows how to look out for family. Born with a deformed foot, she feigns indifference to the pity and insults that come her way. Wary of all things beautiful, Rae instantly distrusts their latest visitor: an appallingly attractive faerie. Further, his presence imperils the secret her sister guards. But when the local townspeople show up demanding his blood, Rae must find a way to protect both her sister's secret and their guest. Even if that means risking herself.

This is a short story meant to introduce an upcoming fantasy trilogy, and I really enjoyed it. I was impressed with how quickly I became immersed in the world, and I really liked the main character and her two sisters. Definitely interested to pick up the first full-length book when it comes out.

THE BONE KNIFE by Intisar Khanani is a short fantasy novelette about family and about being marginalised. I loved the pragmatic, almost dour, attitude of the main character and her clear love for her sisters. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series... though that may be a way off yet.

Chachic Such a pretty tea cup! I've only tried one book by this author, which was Thorn and I thought it was just so-so. 8y
earlgreyediting @chachic Thank you! The tea cup used to belong to my Grandmother. I'm sorry to hear you weren't keen on this author. I adore her work. 8y
