Hello Ocean
Hello Ocean | Pam Munoz Ryan
1 post | 1 read
Dive into this playful poem about the draw of the shore and the effect the ocean has on all five senses. Relive a day at the beach with this lovely book of memories. You can almost feel the salt spray on your face and smell the musky scent of ocean in the cool morning air. Remember how the sand squishes between your toes as the tide rushes to shore and taste the tang of the ocean on your lips. Spirited language evokes a sense of closeness and nostalgia for an old friend. The inspiration of the ocean will make learning the five senses as easy as a day at the beach. Crisp, realistic illustrations fill the pages with the rush of surf and the warmth of sun-baked sand. The sights and smells and sensations of the sea become vividly clear in these beautifully rendered paintings.

Written by Pam Muñoz and illustrated by Mark Astrella, Hello Ocean is a P picture book that shares one‘s memories about the ocean using their five senses. The acrylic paintings in this book are so realistic that it‘s almost hard to believe that they aren‘t photographs. And the writing itself makes you feel as if you really are sitting on the beach listening to the ocean‘s waves crash. I just love the calming factor of this book. #ucflae3414su19

MeganKlein I would use this book in CR, however, I would first present and read the text to my students then have them chorally read with me. Because this text is a P, CR would be an effective strategy that builds fluency and engages all students. UDL strategy 2.4 and EL strategy 24 align with this text because the book actually comes in a translated Spanish version. Spanish-speaking students could follow along with the translated copy! 5y
MeganKlein https://saltcreekstaff.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/culham-kindergarten-lesson-1.... This lesson plan introduces readers to the five senses and words that the author uses in the book to describe the ocean. The activity in this lesson plan evokes creativity and imagination within students, and it teaches students all about their senses! (edited) 5y
DeannaP I like how you said that you would have it translated into a Spanish version! Even if it wasn‘t, I think the pictures could assist an EL! It‘s also a perfect book for the summer! 5y
