Celia's House
Celia's House | D.E. Stevenson
3 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
There's no place like home Celia Dunne may be an old spinster, but she's no fool. She knows that changing her will to leave the grand family estate, Dunnian, to her grand-nephew will ruffle feathers within the family. But Celia also knows that Dunnian has stood solemn and empty for far too long, and she intends for that to change after she's gone. Humphrey's children will turn the creaky old house back into a family home-just the way it was meant to be. As Humphrey's young family grows and expands within the walls of Dunnian, the house seems to welcome them with warmth and a wonderful feeling of belonging. Following the Dunnes through youthful antics, merry parties, heartbreaks, love, and marriages, Celia's House is an enchanting family novel that begs to be read and savored over and over again. Celia's House is another heartwarming tale from D.E. Stevenson, beloved author of Miss Buncle's Book Readers love D.E. Stevenson: "Finding a re-issued D.E. Stevenson novel is like finding a Tiffany lamp at Woolworth's."

I was hoping the spin would land on a couple of the summer vibe books that were on my board but I will do my best to read these, all the library holds that are coming in and a couple summery books. 🙂 Must. Buckle. Down. And. Read. #BookSpinBingo

This is a very absorbing story, but within an intriguing framing device about possible or metaphorical reincarnation is... a retelling of Mansfield Park, of all things. And since it seems to exist primarily to make the original good guys less annoying and the bad guys less appealing, it's more like fan fiction than anything else.

Faranae I'd ask if we really need more Mansfield Park fanfiction in the world, but I suppose DE Stevenson is allowed and possibly to blame for the rest that followed. 2y
willaful @Faranae my annoyance was slightly tempered by remembering a MP “sequel“ I read, the author of whom obviously thought Miss Crawford should've gotten exactly what she wanted and Fanny could go hang. 😂 2y

I‘m loving the #buzzword idea. What a great way to chose what‘s next from my TBR. Maybe I‘ll do one in June, too. (I also have a July and August list!) @Clwojick @hes7 #buzzwordbookathon

Clwojick I‘m so glad you‘re excited for the event! I love the fact that one word can cover a variety of genres and subject matter. 5y
hes7 Fun! “House” is such a popular word that you‘ll definitely get some different stories. I‘m hoping to read Ninth House this month. 5y
BookishMe I like the idea of monthly buzzwords! 5y
