This was a quick, fun read. Dicks does a great job expanding his own short script for a standalone Sontaran fan film to include the Doctor and his companions, writing to the strengths of the Seventh Doctor, Benny, Roz & Chris. It drags a bit in the middle (the section based directly on the movie) but we finally get some information on the Rutans, and the Sontarans and presented as a true threat to the universe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

The original film of Shakedown is notable for starring several Who actors including Sophie Alred (Ace), Michael Wisher (Davros), and Carole Ann Ford (the Doctor's granddaughter Susan) -- all in non-Who roles, of course.

"You're quite a fixer, aren't you, Doctor?"

"Sometimes I think I'm just a meddler who does more harm than good. But I have to try."

This Dr Whosday I discovered the latest Big Finish audio is about the Doctor's first meeting with the Sontarans who are the bad guys in my current read, Shakedown.

It was curious, thought the Doctor, how he‘d always got on better with rogues and riff-raff than with field-marshals, high officials and other top people. If it wasn‘t for that he might still be Lord President of Gallifrey.

It's Dr Whosday and I'm jumping back into the New Adventures with a unique novel called Shakedown! It's an adaptation of a fan-made spin off movie that featured the Sontarans but didn't have the Doctor in it for legal reasons. For the novel, writer Terrance Dicks added the Time Lord and his companions Benny, Chris & Roz to make it part of the on-going New Adventures series. I never got to see the original movie, but I'm excited to read the book!

Ah! Another cracker featuring the Seventh Doctor! I was worried that the Sontarans wouldn't work in book form but they were great in all of their stubborn, treacherous, war-mongering!
