This short-but-sweet story is about Evelyn and the new boy in her class who goes by Queen. Not everybody is nice to Queen, but he and Evelyn become fast friends. At under 100 pages, it leaves you wanting more but the focus on confidence, friendship, and being true to yourself is beautifully and subtly drawn. I hope Evelyn and Queen stay #FriendsForever! #FlyHighJuly

This was a cute, quirky little book. I loved the message behind it- people who are unique are usually the most fun to be around. 😊

We really need to be able "Pick" books that we love more than once in a post, so I'm adding the following emojis evoking happiness in order try to show how much I loved this book: ?❤️???? It's very short - I'd love more stories about these characters - but it made me so happy. Very reminiscent of Jerry Spinelli's "Stargirl". Love, love, love.

I meant to post this back in September when there was a bookmark hashtag going around, but I'm just not that quick. This novella is. The story isn't as normative boundary pushing as the title might indicate, but it does highlight the benefits of being open-minded. I recommend it as a day reader for pre-teens and everyone who enjoys sparkly shorts.

I recently recommended this book on the September Canadian Children's Book Center newsletter. It's very different from the typical zany middle grade offering and I really loved it! --- This book is short, sweet, and terribly perfect. A very focused and tight study of that mind-shaking moment when a new friendship changes your entire worldview. Reminiscent of Rainbow Rowell‘s Eleanor & Park, but for a younger reader.

Quick read that packs a big message. Love this book for middle grade!
