Bring on the Blessings: A Blessings Novel | Beverly Jenkins
4 posts | 10 read | 5 to read
On Bernadine Brown's fifty-second birthday she received an unexpected gift -- she caught her husband, Leo, cheating on her. She was hurt and angry, but rather than cry and scream, she hired herself a top-notch lawyer and ended up with a cool $275 million. Now Bernadine needs a purpose, and that turns out to be the town of Henry Adams, Kansas, one of the last surviving townships founded by freed slaves after the Civil War. The town has put itself up for sale on the Internet, and Bernadine buys it. Watching the town he loves slide into foreclosure is painful for Mayor Trent July, but when he meets Bernadine, he's impressed. She not only offers the town vision, strength, and hope, she also extends her largesse to kids in desperate need of a second chance. Though not everyone in town wants to get on board, Bernadine and Trent, along with his first love, Lily Fontaine, are determined to preserve the town's legacy while ushering in a new era with ties to its unique past and its promising future.

I really liked this. Like, really liked this. It‘s inspirational but it‘s not mawkish or preachy and the characters are wonderful. I‘m going straight on to book 2!

BellaBookNook I have been meaning to read this book for years. So it‘s great to hear all the praise! 6y

I‘m not usually an inspirational romance/fiction girl, but I‘m giving this a go (thanks to the library) and so far, so good.

I always enjoy Ms. Bev's books and learn a lot of history, but I thought this was one of her most compelling that I've read to date. Romantic elements, but not a traditional romance by any means.

Heartwarming and sweet in a Hallmark movie sort of way.
