Ivy and her sisters have a secret: their reclusive Great-Aunt is actually Adela Martin, inspired author of the fantasy classic, Ivory Apples. Generations of obsessive fans have searched for Adela, poring over her letters, sharing their theories online, and gathering at book conventions. It is just a matter of time before one fan gets too close. So when the seemingly-perfect Kate Burden appears at the local park, Ivy knows that something isnt right. Kate has charmed the entire family, but she is suspiciously curious about Ivory Apples. And Ivy must protect what she and her Great-Aunt share: magic that is real, untamable, anddespite anyones desirealways prefers choosing its own vessel.

Mehso-so

An eccentric family protecting a secret from a woman who will go to any length to discover it. Throw in some mythology and fantasy and it should be a winner. However, this story fell flat. It was like the characters didn't even exist in their own world. Without giving too much away, Terrible things were happening to the family and conveniently no one else seemed to be noticing that there was anything wrong. There wasn't a lot of substance.

What if the magic in your favourite book was true? What if the author of that book was your aunt and she needed protection from her fans? What if one of those fans was relentless? An interesting read in that it builds a fantasy world and spends little time there. The threat comes from an obsessive fan. As with many books, I liked the journey better than the destination.

A book within a book & dark fantasy with myth, legend, & a magical realism flare. A tumbling story of darkness, deception, & fantastical bits all rolled into a narrative with beautiful & whimsical writing. The story does require a bit of suspension of reality, but I love this kind of fantastical prose. I wanted more, but was let down by a rushed and cluttered ending. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the potential of a redeeming sequel.

DrexEdit And it's got a gorgeous cover! 😍 😊 5y
