I saw Lucy Watson's Shortcake all over #bookstagram and just had to check it out. (I read it via #kindleunlimited.) What a great, contemporary romance. I love the nuanced portrayal of the protagonist Emelia, a nurse who has been caring for Rose, an older woman whose family seldom visits. When Rose dies, Emelia suddenly has to contend with Rose's family, including her grandson Benjamin, a handsome but severe veteran. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod Emelia tries to emotionally prepare herself to leave the home she had found with Rose when she discovers that Rose had left an unconventional will that includes Emelia . . . and Benjamin.⠀

I'm a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope, and the great humor, careful consideration of mental health, and beautiful sense of found family here made Shortcake a perfect romantic comedy. Thank you, Bookstagram! Loved it.
