Decided to save the final installment of Bernard Cornwell‘s Saxon Stories — War Lord — for this year. I will be sad to say goodbye to Lord Uhtred at this conclusion of this 13th novel. Lucky No. 13.

This installment had more backstory than the previous volumes which I felt slowed down the pace of the book a little. A good chunk took place in Mao‘s past and we learned more about his early days.

Like the previous volume, this one unveiled even more about the story and the characters, including details on how Mao and Nanoka are connected.

Much better than I expected. At least it left me wanting more. But that‘s why I couldn‘t give it 5 ⭐️s. I just needed a little bit more. Only to know what happened up until the asteroid struck Earth. Roth is good at constructing characters—this short story is no different. I instantly was enamored with the MC. A well-crafted short story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4⭐️ Wow what a book. I know these sort of books are hit and miss for me, but this one for some reason just really grabbed me; I think it was because I understand North American “church culture”, having been a part of for the better part of 40+ years. And I think it was also because the relationship between Caroline and Abbie seems pretty true to form. I can see this being a contender for the favourites list for 2022

This installment was jam packed with action. So much happened and I enjoyed every page of it. There was a lot of world building that helped move the story along. I liked that more of the story was revealed in this volume. This volume provided some answers and got me hooked. I have to know what happens next.
