Mara and Dann: Novel, A | 
This is on my immediate-TBR list. Lessing sets the tale of Mara and Dann in Africa, several thousand years into the future... Mentions of magical realism, environmental dystopia, and historical relevance drew my curiosity to this book, which has been sitting on my parents' shelf for years. I just hadn't paid any attention to it until now.

I read this in 2012 because it was written by Doris Lessing. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. When people talk about climate change, I think about this book. When I hear people talk about how hot it is, I think of this book. It presents a chilling and very realistic look at what happens when the south becomes uninhabitable and the only hope of survival is to get to the North. I often wonder why this book isn't referenced more often.
Could not imagine what it would be like to live this way, no water ever, children dieing of starvation and thirst.
