Pickpick

Finished my first #nywd22 read and it was fantastic! I loved this memoir of growing up & trying to fit in.
Tran writes in a way that is honest & funny, drawing connections between his life growing up & classic literature. I loved the connections he made & how he honestly stated how he felt then vs. looking back what he sees now. Things rarely look the same looking backwards & I appreciated how he wove those distinctions into his narrative. ⬇️

MeganAnn I identified with some of the challenges of growing up in a small town (mine was WAY smaller), trying to fit in & figure out who you are. I also enjoyed his stories about coming to America as a refugee & dealing with the cultural differences between his family & friends. Combining all that with the punk friends he found to be his people makes for a compelling narrative of his life. Thanks to @JackOBotts for putting this on my radar! #newyearwhodis (edited) 2y

JackOBotts Yay! I‘m so glad you enjoyed this read, too. You can also find the author‘s Sigh, Gone playlist on Spotify…a great punk mix. 🤘🏼🤘🏼 2y
