Pickpick

This was written about Margaret Duchess of Newcastle about 100 years before Hamilton wrote this to Eliza! She was a contradiction, feminist and anti-feminist, she wrote plays about how truly smart women who wished to be happy would be better off unmarried, yet had a happy, supportive, loving marriage. She was a philosopher who believed in Nature over God, yet she was a staunch royalist who believed laypeople should not be taught to read.

I am back to Mad Madge for #HelloOctober with my reading buddies and a cup of coffee. The history and connections between Margaret Cavendish and people like Thomas Hobbes fascinates me. And what passed for expert medical treatment... You have to wonder who thought metal shavings mulled in wine was a good idea.

Requested this after reading Margaret the First. Margaret Cavendish was a fascinating polymath who made a reputation for herself writing books at a time when only men did. She was also the first woman invited to the Royal Society. Fascinating person.
