We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival
We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival: Essays on Sex Work and Survival | Tina Horn, Natalie West
4 posts | 2 read | 10 to read
This collection of narrative essays by sex workers presents a crystal-clear rejoinder: there's never been a better time to fight for justice. Responding to the resurgence of the #MeToo movement in 2017, sex workers from across the industry—hookers and prostitutes, strippers and dancers, porn stars, cam models, Dommes and subs alike—complicate narratives of sexual harassment and violence, and expand conversations often limited to normative workplaces. Writing across topics such as homelessness, motherhood, and toxic masculinity, We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival gives voice to the fight for agency and accountability across sex industries. With contributions by leading voices in the movement such as Melissa Gira Grant, Ceyenne Doroshow, Audacia Ray, femi babylon, April Flores, and Yin Q, this anthology explores sex work as work, and sex workers as laboring subjects in need of respect—not rescue. A portion of this book's net proceeds will be donated to SWOP Behind Bars (SBB).

This may finally be the month (year!?) I read this book as it was pulled as a #doublespin for April #bookspin

I‘m reading a few chapters during my son‘s tutoring session.

We too is a collection of essays written by sex workers. One of the most shocking things I learned: it was legal for police officers to have sex with prostitutes they were investigating. Michigan outlawed this only in 2017! Violence against sex workers has often been ignored, these essays show both the empowerment of sex work and the exploitation and abuse and advocates making sex workers safer.

My giant stack of library books to read. I‘ve moved them into my bedroom so they stare at me every morning which is some motivation. 📚

merelybookish Both Priestdaddy and I Am I Am I Am are fabulous reads! And pretty quick! 3y

One that I can see picking up off and on. I‘ve only just started and I‘m looking forward to reading more.
