I‘m on a roll this weekend. This was a fun fake-dating holiday rom-com. It‘s spicy, and more importantly, filled with great characters and solid writing. I don‘t think anything billionaire romance truly feels believable, but the fantasy is fun and you can‘t help but root for Fable and Wilder. This is all the NetGalley backlist title I chose for #doublespin

I got this as a blind date book for banned books week from the library and it might be one of the most incredible stories I‘ve read. The Walls children define perseverance. The relationship they have with their parents is incredibly complicated yet so full of love. I‘m astounded about what they‘ve gone through. I‘m so thankful Jeanette is brave enough to tell her story; this will sit with me for a long time. #doublespin

This was my #FoodAndLit pick for #Algeria

It sounded interesting, and parts of it were like the history of the bookshop and the French colonisation. But the timelines made it disjointed and hard to follow. It just wasn‘t really for me this one!

This was also my #DoubleSpin

Oh how I adore Shari Lewis & her sassy sock puppet! After watching her new documentary, I had to read more. How multitalented Shari was—ventriloquist, puppeteer, dancer, singer, actress, magician, author, businesswoman & symphony conductor. She revolutionized children‘s TV, headed her own TV company & even wrote a Star Trek episode! In ‘94, I got to meet Shari & tell her how much she & Lamb Chop meant to me growing up. She truly changed my life.🥰

Ruthiella I remember looking forward to watching her an and Lambchop on TV as a kid. Cool factoid about Star Trek! 🖖 2d
Lesliereadsalot One of my uncles trained her to be a ventriloquist! When I lived in LA a hundred years ago, she had me over to her house and she was so lovely. 2d

TheAromaofBooks Oh wow, how fun! I remember watching this show on PBS. And I can still get “The Song That Never Ends“ stuck in my head effortlessly 😂 2d
AmyG I met her when I was a kid…at the Catskills. My Mom knew her. 🤣 Ha, @Lesliereadsalot ….we are 1 degree from each other. (edited) 2d
MemoirsForMe @Ruthiella I‘m always thrilled to meet new Trek fans like you and Shari! 🖖🏻The episode was The Lights of Zetar. Shari was disappointed she didn‘t get to star in it. One of the exec‘s girlfriends landed the lead role instead. 🤔 1d
MemoirsForMe @Lesliereadsalot @AmyG I love your personal connections with Shari! Wow!You got to meet her and even went to her house. Warms my heart that Shari had such an impact on all of us. 🫶🏻 Hope you both get to watch the Shari and Lamb Chop documentary. 1d
MemoirsForMe @TheAromaofBooks 😁😁😁 Yes!!! That song keeps playing in my head now. It‘s so cool to see how many people grew up with Shari and Lamb Chop. I thought I was the only old fart on Litsy! 🤣🤣🤣 1d
Lesliereadsalot @AmyG Haha, yes 1 degree! 1d

Very repetitive and slow, but the early medieval history was interesting.

Another #roll100 and November #doublespin. This was a tough read for me…felt sluggish right up to the last 100 pages…perhaps I wasn‘t reading carefully enough…I struggled to follow.

Reggie His writing style. It‘s rough to get through sometimes. 4d

Soft pick because I've struggled with the writing style and how the book skips around. But that does actually fit the author and her life. It's a rough memoir, an open one. It must have taken a lot of courage, energy and heart to write all this down. An eye-opener, for sure, and a important voice to listen to.

Well researched, but the chapters were very long, except for 2 of them. I never knew about a Women's Orchestra at Auschwitz. The Nazis made them play for the people arriving at the platform where the prisoners were sent right to live or left to die.

Finished in the camper. These short stories are a lot to take in and devastating in many ways. My favorite, the longest of the stories, is Negosios. Most of the stories are clearly autobiographical. All are about the Dominican immigrant experience. Negocios is tdd from the POV of a son whose father left for the U.S. planning (or claims) to bring his family after earning money. He starts a second family. Diaz pulls no punches. #doublespin
