#doublespin for May @TheAromaofBooks

This was well done. The language is a bit dated - written in the 1980s there are a lot of "golly gee" conversations but juxtapositioned with talk of security guards and drugs in public schools.
This was groundbreaking when written and the story still holds up well. I enjoyed it.

Meh. Just not my kind of thing. Lots of Doctor Who quotes sans context lumped together by themes. The best lines seem to all be in here along with lines that look suspiciously like they were chose for page layout more so than content. DNF at page 50 because, while book-shaped, this does not fulfill book-want for me.

TheAromaofBooks Books of quotes just never seem to work for me. You can't really sit and read them, and how often do I just need a quote on a random topic?? 😂 2h
Zoes_Human @TheAromaofBooks Yeah, I think I might be the same. i love Doctor Who though, so I thought I‘d try it. 2h

4.5 🌟 the writing in these stories just flows. There is an ease and grace in these realistic and gritty stories. Highly recommend. I know I am late to this party, but I am so glad I read this collection finally. Thank you @TheAromaofBooks #DoubleSpin

Joining! @Andrew65

Ironically, I decided to go solo camping this weekend to get away and read, without even knowing this was happening. Got quite a bit done already, so here‘s what I hope for the rest of the week:
1.) Finish: Kaikeyi (#bookspin)
2.) Finish: Eleanor & Park
3.) Start & finish: Perfect Shot (#doublespin)
4.) Start: The Magdalen Girls (book club pick)

Andrew65 Good luck. The camping sounds perfect. 😊 2d

I just realized I never posted my May #bookspin TBR or the bingo board. So, here it is, all late. Lol. The picture isn't that great, but it's gonna have to do for now.

My #BookSpin for May was a story from The Big Book of Science Fiction. If the spinning wheel of book fate keeps this up I'll have this 1160-page book finished in no time! ha! This month's story was Mechanopolis from 1913 by Miguel de Unamuno; translated from Spanish. It's a very short story. A man travels to a world where there are no humans, just machines. ⬇

DrexEdit Cut off from all human contact, he loses his sanity. When he finally escapes back to earth he resumes his life devoid of all de-humanizing machines. Yeah, the author's point of view is crystal clear. 3 ⭐

I shall pick my #DoubleSpin short story from this book of Latin American stories I just happen to have checked out from the library. Can't imagine I won't find a good story to read here!
TheAromaofBooks Short story collections can be so hit or miss, so it's kind of fun to read them in snippets instead of all at one go. 1d

I appreciate the fierceness, vulnerability & bravery of George M Johnson sharing his experiences & views for this mid-life memoir.

While some of these stories were quite clever, most were just okay. I‘m not sure our senses of humor are very compatible. However this has been on my TBR for years, so I was glad to get to it with my #LPMBC #GroupC. 👍🏻

I‘ll get this to you shortly @Readergrrl Last book!

This is our peony that doesn‘t have support, but it‘s still a beautiful color. (It next to our driveway, and I ruined the metal a couple of years ago. Whoops! 😂) @Cinfhen
