Pickpick

I found this as an audio on Scribd not realizing it was the 4th of a series but I had no problems following the characters. It is 1947 and there have been a series of execution type murders. Former Scotland Yard Inspector John Madden‘s name came up in an unsent letter from one of the victims and he is consulted. Loved the characters, the plot was good and the narration was excellent- it is post war Britain coming to terms- I will now read #1! 4⭐️

robinb Not familiar with this series...I need to check it out! 👍 5y

Mehso-so

The best thing about Airth's John Madden books are the characters, and this one is no exception. We see more of Billy Styles and Lily Poole here, which is good. However, the plot was somewhat predictable, even though the suspect's backstory was very good. While I enjoyed this one, it doesn't have the whipsmart characterizations or unbearable tension of River of Darkness.

This just became available in my library download queue, so it's going to the top of the TBR pile. Not sure how I missed this one when it was first published. IMHO, Airth's John Madden series would be an excellent Masterpiece Mystery.
