Straight Up
Straight Up: A Murder on the Rocks Mystery | Cathi Stoler
1 post | 1 read
Jude Dillane, owner of The Corner Lounge in Manhattan's East Villiage, knows she will never be safe until The New Year's Eve Serial Killer, Art Bevins, is behind bars. Still on the loose, Bevins continues to taunt her. He blames Jude for all his troubles, and is determined to make her pay. With the FBI investigation at a stand-still, Jude knows it's up to her to bring him to justice. Thomas "Sully" Sullivan, Jude's friend and landlord, becomes enamored of his glamourous new tenant, Dolores Castel, whom Jude instantly distrusts. Is Dolores really interested in Thomas, or his money? Jude fears Dolores is weaving a deadly web to ensnare Sully. As she continues her pursuit of Bevins and dodges his attempts to stop her for good, Jude uncovers clues from Dolores' past stretching back years, and is convinced she must put a stop to it before Sully is ruined, or worse.

Enjoyed this one. The tagged book is the third in the On the Rocks series by Cathi Stoler. It can be read as a stand-alone novel, which is what I did. There are references in the plot to things that happened previously in the first two novels, but that didn't dim my enjoyment. I'll probably go back and read the first two books in the series at some point soon. Anyway, good pacing and great characterization.
