Pickpick

This is a book that I was asked to “judge” for a contest. Ilyse who has been physically/emotionally abused by her father and sister and placed in a nunnery, is used as a pawn in an evil scheme. She marries Ross MacMillan, a chieftain who thought he was marrying Ilyse‘s older sister. They grow into love as they support and eventually learn to trust each other. I loved both mains. My only issue was a sudden and frankly unbelievable about-face 🔻

robinb in Ross‘ personality/character toward the end of the story (luckily it‘s resolved)…and oh yeah, there‘s also a bit of a cliffhanger as there are two subsequent books (by two other authors). And I‘d be willing to give those a try as well. Nicely done. 4/5⭐️ (edited) 1y
squirrelbrain Hi Robin, I just received your lovely card today - thank you! (There‘s been a cyber attack in the Uk that has stopped all international mail 😬) 1y
robinb @squirrelbrain Oh no! Things are scary out there. Glad it made it through. 🤗 1y

Ross MacMillan lifts his bride's veil...and discovers it's not the woman he'd agreed to marry but her beautiful younger sister, Ilysa MacDonnell! The new MacMillan chieftain must accept Ilysa as his wife, for retaining his clan's lands depends on her father's support. But why is she there? Are her aims to help him or her father? Drawing out Ilysa's secrets will kindle an alliance more powerful—and passionate!—than Ross ever imagined... 5 stars
