Simply put: this book is amazing. Bell has touched on a lot of topics that have never sat well with me around racism that I now have some voice to. His parables about racism‘s permanence in America and how issues need to be reconciled not resolved is, for lack of a better term, eye opening.

While his style is pretty corny he is able to state his points with pristine clarity. He wanted EVERYONE to read this not just intellectuals.

This book helps one to understand and appreciate the foundational sense to Critical Race Theory. Dr. Bell‘s use of our too frequently concealed history of racism as well as imaginative story telling leads a critical reader to valuable social inspection and introspection. This book belongs in a ā€best readsā€¯ list of the 1619 Project.

Wonderful book. Although the book explores race through a number of short stories, it took me a while to make it through. There's a heaviness in these stories, even though they are short allegories.

Overall, and heartbreakingly, I agree with the main assertion of the book, which is racism is permanent and we can only temporarily disrupt it rather than eradicate it. A perfect book for the moment we are in (in the U.S.). 5/5.
