This has easily become one of my favorite books. The weaving together of stories of black folk from the south to various destinations in search of the opportunity to experience simple humanity. Wilkerson masterfully contextualizes these stories within the framework of the time. It‘s so carefully crafted, at times it feels like you‘re reading fiction. Overall, this is a fantastic read that everyone should take the opportunity to dive into.

Fledgling: A Novel | Octavia E. Butler
Pickpick

Fledging was a fascinating, audacious, and exhilarating take on vampire lore. Weaving together themes of race, family, generational lessons and traumas, we follow the protagonist Shori, as she tries to navigate her existence as a vampire-human hybrid while fighting against discrimination, for her past, and ultimately her future. Definitely recommend this read!

Wonderful book. Although the book explores race through a number of short stories, it took me a while to make it through. There's a heaviness in these stories, even though they are short allegories.

Overall, and heartbreakingly, I agree with the main assertion of the book, which is racism is permanent and we can only temporarily disrupt it rather than eradicate it. A perfect book for the moment we are in (in the U.S.). 5/5.

Really enjoyed this read. It was awesome to read how Harry has evolved and taken on one of his greatest challenges yet – fatherhood. Overall, this was an easy, exciting read and I'm glad we got to experience the great Harry Potter once more. ⚡️

Mehso-so

Meh. While I enjoyed ABG the series, Issa Rae's humor didn't translate through well in this book. A lot of the humor was rolled into stereotypical nonsense, and was cringe-worthy, tbh. I laughed out loud a couple of times, but overall, this read just wasn't for me. 2.5/5.0

Rich storytelling and wonderful character development, especially with so many. I truly enjoyed the journey of the Turners, how the city of Detroit was a character in its own right, and the power of family and love. 3.5/5
