Read these last week. I loved Sally Gardner's atmospheric writing in The Weather Woman, Malorie Blackman's candour about the difficulties she has faced, in her autobiography, and the gently compelling story of Crow Lake. I was less keen on Grinny, which hasn't aged well and I enjoyed We Were Wolves, loved the illustrations but it fits into quite a narrow niche in the YA market.

A slightly whimsical but extremely enjoyable and atmospheric tale. I thought it had a Dickensian vibe at times. There are certainly some Dickensian sounding characters. The descriptions are wonderful. There‘s a definite sense of time and place. The author really brought it all to life for me. I was totally immersed in Neva‘s story and was gripped from beginning to end. A captivating and engaging read. #Lovereading
