The Witches of Silverlake Volume One | Simon Curtis
1 post | 2 read | 1 to read
It's always tough being the new kid in the coven. Elliot Green has had a rough year. His dad died, he had to move across the country, and now hes about to start high school in one of LAs most prestigious private schools, where his mom has accepted the position of Vice Principal. Hes quickly taken in by the schools outcasts: the scholarship kids; the queer kids; and the ones who just dont really fit in with the glossy trust fund babies of SJTBA. They quickly let him in on their little secretthey are witches. Elliot joins them in their world among the crystal stores and occult shops of Silverlake and ends up joining his new friends coven. During one of their magical experiments, they accidentally release a bloodthirsty demon that starts murdering their classmates and teachers. Elliot and his coven realize that the fun and games of playing with crystals and candles is over, that magic is powerful, real, and that it might be more dangerous than theyd ever imagined.

3.5 ⭐ This was interesting, but not in the best way. It feels very much like a rehash of the movie The Craft. The group of kids is bigger, and there are multiple genders, but this is a retelling of the Craft, with a tad bit of Something is killing the children thrown in. It‘s not a bad story, but it jumps, frequently. The ideas are mostly smooth, but the action goes forward, jumps, goes forward, jumps etc. That is annoying. There is not time

LibrarianRyan to develop a feel for the characters of how they feel about the situations taking place around them. Overall, this is a good start, but I will reserve more judgement until the next volume is released. This could either go on to become a great series, or flush itself-down the toilet. 2y
