People feel powerless. They believe that the systems aren't delivering for them. It is now common that less than half of the citizens vote, allowing anti-democratic politicians to be elected. People must understand the latent power they wield - their electoral decisions can alter the game of the politicians. They are not powerless, in any way. The “power of the powerless“ has a key role to play in saving democracy.

The economic microstructures created in the last 30 years transmogrify every human domain and endeavour, including humans themselves, according to a specific image of the economy. All actions are evaluated as if they have a monetary value: free speech, education, political participation. We learn implicitly to weigh what should be principles as if they were commodities.
The struggle to balance freedom of expression with public safety and the scourge of disinformation can further democratic decline. As social media play a larger role in politics, countries are struggling to address a host of issues effectively and responsibly, including fake news, foreign governments‘ manipulation of social platforms to influence public opinion, data privacy, the firms‘ monopoly of the market, and the firms‘ lack of transparency.
Desire and hatred – are the two internal forces or strong impulses which largely drives us. Most of our interests and most of our speech and activity are motivated by what we like, and what we hate. Thus, we are strongly pulled towards what we like and repelled from what we hate. For the most part of our lives, we are driven mostly by these two forces.

Democracy is at risk. Its survival is endangered by a perfect storm of threats, both from within and from a rising tide of authoritarianism. The covid -19 pandemic has exacerbated these threats through the imposition of states of emergency, the spread of disinformation, and crackdowns on independent media and freedom of expression. Electoral integrity is increasingly being questioned, often without evidence, even in established democracies.

In the end, every nation on earth is a nation of men. It always depends on the individuals involved.
