We were taught nothing about Ireland or its history in school, and when I did learn of the part we played in that struggle, I felt shame. The world should know about young men like Tone and Robert Emmet.-------Oscar-winning actor COLIN FIRTH (Sunday Times Magazine 2012) AN EPIC NOVEL FROM IRELANDS PAST (BOOK #1 in THE LIBERTY TRILOGY) The book some critics are calling "THE IRISH 'LES MISERABLES'. And others (Ireland On Sunday) ) "On as grand a scale as Flanagan's THE YEAR OF THE FRENCH" `Beautifully written, meticulously researched, immensely enjoyable and, by turns, heartbreaking and uplifting. Sunday Independent. Set against the background of a country in turmoil, Tread Softly On My Dreams is the passionate and powerful true story of Robert Emmet, a young Protestant who became one of Irelands most famous rebels. Roberts devotion to his dream will change the lives of all those who love him. Sacrifice and tragedy await the courageous Anne Devlin, while romance blossoms between Robert and Sarah Curran. But can love survive amid the turbulent fight for freedom? `Although I started off thinking this would be a love story, an incredible tale of political corruption began to unfold. The Irish Times.

Just finished and wow. I‘ll write a review later. Suffice it to say for now, this first in a trilogy based on real people and events about Ireland‘s long-sought independence is full of heart & soul. It appears that the author is a descendant of some of the people in the book. This is a reluctant 5-star book, which I ordinarily save for new favorites. This one is so heartbreaking it can‘t be a fave. It deserves them anyway as an excellent novel. ⬇️

Texreader I‘m counting this one for #readingeurope2020 #NorthernIreland. Even though it doesn‘t take place there, the book involves all of Ireland and its rebellions against England in 1798 and 1803, that included men from the north. (edited) 4y

Poor Berney was chewed out earlier and I love how this character Redmond described it: “You nearly ate Berney without waiting for the salt earlier.”

I wonder if the dialog here is accurate for the time: early 1800s Ireland. If so, it‘s brilliant. If not, it‘s brilliant.

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm 😂🤣😂 Love it! 4y
Texreader @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I wish I could remember it so I could use it sometime. But then again I‘d probably have to explain it. 😊 4y

Something we can all relate to: “Little Arthur discovered something which changed his life. He discovered books. The books Robert kept in a bookcase there. Some were in strange languages, which he later discovered to be Greek and French, but others were in English and he started to read.”

The 1798 Irish rebellion failed. Robert is now trying to explain to Sarah the brand new American principle that all men are created equal. Her answer is apt: “Men have all the rights, women none. The only thing I understand, is that I have been brought up to do and understand nothing.”

This book, first in a trilogy about Ireland‘, this one about the 1798 Irish rebellion against England, is well written. It is a novelization about real events and people. But it‘s hard to bring myself back to it because it‘s very dark and sad. Even though it‘s a history of all of Ireland I‘ll be counting it for #readingeurope2020 #northernIreland

A free ebook awhile back, strongly recommended if the sale comes around again, or even if it doesn‘t
