pickA really lovely story about a mother-daughter relationship, and the importance of understanding, patience, and forgiveness. Maybe it‘s because my mother fractured our relationship so badly at the end of her life, or because Sally, the mom in this story, is my age, but I cried at the end. Definitely recommend.

pickThis is a book of 2 halves. The first half sees a daughter estranged (to a degree) from her mother. She returns to London from Australia to take care of her after she has a fall. At first I found the daughter hard to like and I struggled to understand how she couldn‘t see the truth in front of her but as the book progressed I was charmed by their relationship, the books they shared and how they repaired their bond through this shared love.
pickA beautiful story about grief and community. I can‘t imagine anything that would ever make me mad enough to push my mom out of my life for any amount of time, especially two decades. Ella was infuriating, however I‘m glad she picked up on her mother‘s absentmindedness and realized her mistakes. What she does for her mother in the end had me crying warm, hopeful tears. Book #15 in 2024
