A feminist interpretation of the notorious Hungarian serial killer Erzebeth Bathory, the Blood Countess, as told by a naive, young maid. Obviously, the references of her murders are mentioned, but done offstage, and her cruel personality is shown. However, the novel looks at the political turmoil happening around her estate, her detractors wanting her downfall, an epidemic plaguing the countryside, and her sadistic minions doing her bidding.
