pickLa défaite des mères is Yabouza's 1st book, co-written w/ Pinguilly. It tells the story of Niwalie, born in the DRC of Centrafrican parents, & living in the #CentralAfricanRepublic in the 60s/70s. The novel is as much, poss. more, about geopolitics than her life as a woman & mother in an unstable, machist & undemocratic country. Lots of allusions to songs, literature, past events. Very interesting, but the humour is laid on a bit too thick for me.
