Pickpick

Oh, I love this series so much...simply everything about it. I always look forward to seeing a new book drop because I KNOW that I'm going to have a great book to savor.
First and foremost, Devlin's characters (especially the mains Leo and Jasper) are so well-developed that I've seamlessly come to know and love them over the course of four books now. Their dark backstories, their vulnerabilities, their strengths have been written with such 🔻

robinb precision and care that as I read their stories, they feel real and care worthy to me...cheer worthy. I love Leo's spunk and intelligence. I love Jasper's gruffness and strive to rise above his past.
While Devlin's character development is excellent, her plotlines are every bit as entertaining and original as those characters. The location/time period feel visceral and spot on, and the plots are exciting and absorbing with just the right amount 🔻

robinb of danger and mayhem. It's always a pleasure not only to spend time with Leo and Jasper but to delve into their world and day-to-days.
And finally, Devlin has such a gift at pacing. I never feel any slow stretches or uneven spots in these books. Everything unfolds as it should, be it the action/denouement in the stories or the slow burn romance elements. They are just the right amount (at the right time) to keep me both on the edge of my seat 🔻

robinb and hopeful/swooning over the romance between these two characters. So well done.

If you love romantic historical mystery series, give this one a try. Start with Shadow at the Morgue as I feel it's best to follow this story from the beginning to get the full effect of how wonderfully and beautifully the series is unfolding.
